Summary

Nebuchadnezzar was one of most famous of the Old Testament Gentile Kings who was not a King of Israel.  He expanded the Chaldean / Babylonian Empire that opposed and conquered the land of Judah where Israel resided and Jerusalem was located.  His reign was roughly from 605 BC to 562 BC.  He appears in four Books of the Old Testament along with references in Falvius Josephus work "The Antiquities of the Jews".
  1. Jeremiah
  2. Ezekiel
  3. 2 Chronicles
  4. Daniel

His name means "Nabu or Nebo, watch over my heir", which was asking one of the gods of the ancient Assyrian and Babylonian areas to take care of the son.  He is known as Nebuchadnezzar II, the eldest son of Nabopolassar who was the founder of the Chaldean / Babylonian empire.

The Babylonian Empire could be equated to now be located in parts of Iraq, Kuwait, Syria and a small part of southwest Iran.  There are several excellent sources of geographical and historical information contained in websites like wiki and Britannica, which unfortunately mention the Old Restatement scriptures while not giving the information proper credit as the scriptures are the best historical writing that has pasted historical scrutiny.

There are four primary scriptural passages that are the main focus for Biblical researching the career of Nebuchadnezzar concerning the fate of Egypt and Israel.

  1. In Ezekiel 32:1-2, God has Ezekiel begin to give a prophecy against Egypt.
  2. In Ezekiel 32:11-12, God has Ezekiel give the person in the prophecy who will attach Egypt, which is the King of Babylon.
  3. Jeremiah 46:1-6, God has Jeremiah give some of the details of Nebuchadnezzar's defeats Pharaoh Necho, the king of Egypt.
  4. 2 Chronicles 36-5-8, gives the fate of an evil king of Israel named Jehoiakim by Nebuchadnezzar.

Note: The king of Israel has four spelling renderings in scriptural text depending upon translation, commentaries and secular historical works.

King Nebuchadnezzar conducted three sieges of Jerusalem resulting in these key events:

  1. The Israelite Daniel eventually becoming the second in charge of the Babylonian Empire.
  2. Daniel becoming a Prophet that wrote of the time:
    (a) In Babylon.
    (b) In Persia, where Daniel rose to be the second in charge there also and Daniel formed the group of wise men called the Magi that would look for the coming of the Jewish Messiah.  These are the group who visited King Herod in Jerusalem four hundred years later where they also traveled with an army of troops that were part of the Parthian Empire.  This is why King Herod was afraid.
    (c) Four hundred years before the Messiah would come and the prediction of the exact day the Messiah would present Himself to Israel.
    (d) The End Time dealing with the Antichrist.
  3. The Destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem.
  4. A very unique prophecy fulfilled for the time when the third siege was underway.  The two Prophets of God, Jeremiah and Ezekiel, were warning King Zedekiah not to rebel against King Nebuchadnezzar or Zedekiah would die in Babylon but not see it.  Ezekiel 12:13
  5. After the third siege, the nation of Israel began a 70-year period called the Desolations of Jerusalem, not a period of servitude but a period where there was no Temple worship.

The key introductory scriptural passages are listed here that frame the time period of Nebuchadnezzar:

Ezekiel 32:1-2 1 In the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, on the first of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,“Son of man, take up a song of mourning over Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say to him, You compared yourself to a young lion of the nations, Yet you are like the monster in the seas; And you burst forth in your rivers And muddied the waters with your feet
And fouled their rivers.’”
Ezekiel 32:11-12 11 For the Lord God says this: “The sword of the king of Babylon will attack you. 12 By the swords of the warriors I will make your multitude fall; all of them are tyrants of the nations, And they will devastate the pride of Egypt, And all its multitude will be destroyed.
Jeremiah 46:1-6 1 This is the word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the nations: 2 Concerning Egypt: This is the message against the army of Pharaoh Necho king of Egypt, which was defeated at Carchemish on the Euphrates River by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah:“Prepare your shields, both large and small, and march out for battle!Harness the horses, mount the steeds! Take your positions with helmets on! Polish your spears, put on your armor! 5 What do I see? They are terrified, they are retreating, their warriors are defeated. They flee in haste without looking back, and there is terror on every side,” declares the Lord. 6 “The swift cannot flee nor the strong escape. In the north by the River Euphrates they stumble and fall.
2 Chronicles 36:5-8 5 Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord his God. 6 Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon attacked him and bound him with bronze shackles to take him to Babylon. 7 Nebuchadnezzar also took to Babylon articles from the temple of the Lord and put them in his temple there. 8 The other events of Jehoiakim’s reign, the detestable things he did and all that was found against him, are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah. And Jehoiachin his son succeeded him as king.

The Book of Daniel is authenticated to be written between 604 and 532 BC:

  1. Septuagint Old Testament that date back to the period of 270 BC.
  2. The Dead Sea Scrolls that were copies from at least 408 BC.
  3. Periodicity of the Book of Daniel:
    (a) The
    grammar,
    (b) Etymology, and
    (b) Choice of words
were specific for the time period that proves that the Book of Daniel was written between 604 and 532 BC  (if link missing)
  4. The primary point of old historical scriptural copies from several sources, besides the two noted, is the old parchments do not contradict one another.  The scribes, from different geographical areas which were COPYING scriptures, did not conspire with one another to make sure there were no errors.
  5. The Book of Ezekiel in verse 28:3 mentions the Prophet Daniel where the Book of Ezekiel was written between 593 and 565 BC.
Ezekiel 28:3 Behold, thou art wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that they can hide from thee:

Accomplishments, Important Dates and Future Empires

These are the main accomplishments and important date markers for the life and career of Nebuchadnezzar:
  1. Approximately 612 BC, Prince Nebuchadnezzar with his father King Nabopolassar conquer the prosperous city nation of Nineveh.
  2. Approximately 607/606 BC, Prince Nebuchadnezzar with his father King Nabopolassar conquer areas in the northern mountains of Assyria.
  3. Approximately 606/605 BC, Prince Nebuchadnezzar defeats the greatest empire at that time, known as Egypt, when he defeats Pharaoh Necho at the Battle of Carchemish.  This battle also included defeating many of the remaining armies of Assyria.
    a. Pharaoh Necho II had been placed Israel's King Jehoiakim on the throne by Pharaoh Necho.  Jehoiakim replaced his brother Jehoahaz.
    b. Both Jehoikim and Jehohaz were evil men albeit they were raised by a Godly King and Father Josiah, who is part of the Royal Blood Line of Jesus Christ.
  4. King Nabopolassar dies on August 16, 605 BC.  Prince Nebuchadnezzar is on a military campaign in Syria to solidify the empires acquisitions when he returns back home to become King after a three-week period before heading back out into Syria.

First Siege of Jerusalem - Prophet Daniel taken to Babylon

  5. Approximately June to December of 604 BC, King Nebuchadnezzar conquers many areas of the nation of Israel including Jerusalem.  The conquering of Jerusalem was the first of three different sieges.
  6. After the conquering Judah, that included Jerusalem, King Nebuchadnezzar leaves King Jehoiakim in Jerusalem as a vassal king and takes back prisoners from Jerusalem for many purposes which includes Daniel, Hananiah, Mishel and Azariah.  See Daniel 1:3-6 shown below.
    Hebrew Names Babylonian Names
Daniel : "God is my Judge" Belteshazzar : "Prince of Bel"
Hananiah : "Beloved of the Lord" Shadrach : "Illuminated by the Sun God"
Mishel : "Who is as God" Meschah : "Who is the like unto the Moon God"
Azariah : "The Lord is my help" Abednego : "Servant of Nego, a shine fire"sa
  7. Approximately 602 BC, King Nebuchadnezzar has the first dream which Daniel interprets in Daniel 2:31-44.  The dream entails "an enormous, dazzling statue, awesome in appearance".  Here are the parts of the statue with Daniel's interpretation given to Daniel from God where Biblical Scholars, using history and Daniel Chapter 8's vision of the Goat and Ram, enabled the establishment of the two Empires after the Babylonian Empire.  The establishment of the Iron Legs with the Iron and Clay Feet, gave the clue that the next two kingdoms are linked because of the same metal composition description.  Since we know that the first Iron Legs kingdom points to the Roman Empire, then the Iron and Clay Feet kingdom will be in the same geographical areas.

  8. Approximately 601/600 BC, King Nebuchadnezzar's army has a major battle with no winners against Egypt which caused heavy losses in his cavalry of chariots.

Second Siege of Jerusalem - King Jehoikim rebels after listening to false prophets

  9. Approximately in December to March of 599/598 BC, King Nebuchadnezzar's army attacks the major state areas of many Arab tribes in northern Arabia to secure logistic controlling areas for a future second invasion of Israel that involves the second siege of three of Jerusalem because King Jehoikim is rebelling.
    (a) The Prophet Jeremiah warns King Jehoikim not to rebel but Jehoikim proceeds anyway.
    (b) The Prophet Ezekiel warns King Jehoikim not to rebel but Jehoikim proceeds anyway.
    (c) A five year battle occurs and Jehoikim dies, where his son Jehiachin, often called Jechoniah, takes over as King until the siege is over.
    (d) God announces a blood curse on Jeconiah, which appears to affect the Royal Blood Line of Jesus Christ, but does not because of how God handles the problem.
    (e) After the siege is over, King Jehiachin, Prophet Ezekiel and 10,000 Israelites are taken back to Babylon.  The uncle of King Jehiachin, named Mattaniah, renamed by Nebuchadnezzar to Zedekiah, is put in charge as a vassal king 2 Kings 24:17.  See Ezekiel 1:1-3; 2 Kings 24:8-20; 2 Chronicles 36:6-10 for more information on this second siege.

Third Siege of Jerusalem - King Zedekiah rebels and destruction of the Temple

  10. Approximately 587 BC, King Zedekiah rebels, despite warnings from both Jeremiah and Ezekiel to not to do so.
    (a) King Zedekiah is warned by both Ezekiel in Babylon and Jeremiah in Jerusalem not to rebel against King Nebuchadnezzar.  Jeremiah 32:5 and Ezekiel 12:13.
    (b) Jeremiah is instructed by God to purchase land, seal the land dead in a jar container and then bury the container so that it can be retrieved when the nation of Judah returns after 70-year "Desolation of Jerusalem".  See Jeremiah 32:6-44, 2 Kings 24:17-20, 2 Kings 251-27
    (c) King Zedekiah is told that he will die in Babylon but never see it.  This was a paradoxical statement until it is revealed in In 2 Kings 25:7 what occurred.
    (d) All of the temple sacrificial equipment and much more was taken back to Babylon.

After First Siege Time Period

Daniel 1:3-6 3 Then the king ordered Ashpenaz, chief of his court officials, to bring into the king’s service some of the Israelites from the royal family and the nobility 4 young men without any physical defect, handsome, showing aptitude for every kind of learning, well informed, quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king’s palace. He was to teach them the language and literature of the Babylonians. 5 The king assigned them a daily amount of food and wine from the king’s table. They were to be trained for three years, and after that they were to enter the king’s service. 6 Among those who were chosen were some from Judah: Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. 7 The chief official gave them new names: to Daniel, the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.
Daniel 2:1-3 1 In the second year of his reign, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams; his mind was troubled and he could not sleep. 2 So the king summoned the magicians, enchanters, sorcerers and astrologers to tell him what he had dreamed. When they came in and stood before the king, 3 he said to them, “I have had a dream that troubles me and I want to know what it means.
Daniel 2:37-45  37 You, O king, are the king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power, the strength, and the honor; 38 and wherever the sons of mankind live, or the animals of the field, or the birds of the sky, He has handed them over to you and has made you ruler over them all. You are the head of gold. 39 And after you another kingdom will arise inferior to you, then another third kingdom of bronze, which will rule over all the earth. 40 Then there will be a fourth kingdom as strong as iron; just as iron smashes and crushes everything, so, like iron that crushes, it will smash and crush all these things. 41 And in that you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter’s clay and partly of iron, it will be a divided kingdom; but it will have within it some of the toughness of iron, since you saw the iron mixed with common clay. 42 And just as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of pottery, so some of the kingdom will be strong, and part of it will be fragile. 43 In that you saw the iron mixed with common clay, they will combine with one another in their descendants; but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron does not combine with pottery. 44 And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed, and that kingdom will not be left for another people; it will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, but it will itself endure forever. 45 Just as you saw that a stone was broken off from the mountain without hands, and that it crushed the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold, the great God has made known to the king what will take place in the future; so the dream is certain and its interpretation is trustworthy.”

Second Siege Time Period

Jeremiah 22:17-19 17 “But your eyes and your heart are set only on dishonest gain, on shedding innocent blood and on oppression and extortion.” 18 Therefore this is what the Lord says about Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah: “They will not mourn for him: ‘Alas, my brother! Alas, my sister!’ They will not mourn for him: ‘Alas, my master! Alas, his splendor!’ 19 He will have the burial of a donkey— dragged away and thrown outside the gates of Jerusalem.”
Jeremiah 22:24-30 24 “As I live,” declares the Lord, “even if Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were a signet ring on My right hand, yet I would pull you off; 25 and I will hand you over to those who are seeking your life, yes, to those of whom you are frightened, that is, to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and the Chaldeans. 26 I will hurl you and your mother who gave birth to you into another country where you were not born, and there you will die. 27 But as for the land to which they long to return, they will not return to it. 28 Is this man Coniah a despised, shattered jar? Or is he an undesirable vessel? Why have he and his descendants been hurled out And cast into a land that they had not known? 29 O land, land, land,
Hear the word of the Lord!
30 This is what the Lord says: ‘Write this man down as childless, A man who will not prosper in his days; For no man among his descendants will prosper Sitting on the throne of David Or ruling again in Judah.’”
Ezekiel 1:1-3 1 Now it came about in the thirtieth year, on the fifth day of the fourth month, while I was by the river Chebar among the exiles, the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God. 2 (On the fifth of the month in the fifth year of King Jehoiachin’s exile, 3 the word of the Lord came expressly to Ezekiel the priest, son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar; and there the hand of the Lord came upon him.)
2 Kings 24:8-20 8 Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king, and he reigned for three months in Jerusalem; and his mother’s name was Nehushta the daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem. 9 He did evil in the sight of the Lord, in accordance with all that his father had done. 10 At that time the servants of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon went up to Jerusalem, and the city came under siege. 11 And Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon came to the city, while his servants were besieging it. 12 Then Jehoiachin the king of Judah went out to the king of Babylon, he, his mother, his servants, his commanders, and his officials. And the king of Babylon took him prisoner in the eighth year of his reign. 13 He also brought out from there all the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the king’s house, and he smashed all the articles of gold that Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the Lord, just as the Lord had said. 14 Then he led into exile all the people of Jerusalem and all the commanders and all the valiant warriors, ten thousand exiles, and all the craftsmen and the smiths. None were left except the poorest people of the land. 15 So he led Jehoiachin into exile to Babylon; also the king’s mother, the king’s wives, and his officials and the leading men of the land, he led into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon. 16 And all the valiant men, seven thousand, and the craftsmen and the smiths, a thousand, all strong and fit for war, these too the king of Babylon brought into exile to Babylon. 17 Then the king of Babylon made his uncle Mattaniah king in his place, and changed his name to Zedekiah. 18 Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned for eleven years in Jerusalem; and his mother’s name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah. 19 He did evil in the sight of the Lord, in accordance with everything that Jehoiakim had done. 20 For it was due to the anger of the Lord that this happened in Jerusalem and Judah, until He cast them out of His presence. And Zedekiah revolted against the king of Babylon.
2 Chronicles 36:6-10 6 Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up against him and bound him with bronze chains to take him to Babylon. 7 Nebuchadnezzar also brought some of the articles of the house of the Lord to Babylon, and he put them in his temple in Babylon. 8 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim and [a]the abominations which he committed, and what was found against him, behold, they are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah. And his son Jehoiachin became king in his place.
9 Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king, and he reigned for three months and ten days in Jerusalem. He did evil in the sight of the Lord. 10 At the turn of the year King Nebuchadnezzar sent men and had him brought to Babylon with the valuable articles of the house of the Lord; and he made his relative Zedekiah king over Judah and Jerusalem.

Third Siege Time Period

Jeremiah 32:5 Then he will take Zedekiah to Babylon, and he will be there until I visit him,” declares the Lord. “If you fight against the Chaldeans, you will not succeed”’?”
Jeremiah 39:6-7 6 Then the king of Babylon slaughtered the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes at Riblah; the king of Babylon also slaughtered all the nobles of Judah. 7 He then blinded Zedekiah’s eyes and bound him in shackles of bronze to bring him to Babylon.
Ezekiel 12:13 I will also spread My net over him, and he will be caught in My net. And I will bring him to Babylon in the land of the Chaldeans; yet he will not see it, though he will die there.
Jeremiah 32:6-44 6 And Jeremiah said, "The word of the LORD came to me, saying, 7 Behold, Hanamel the son of Shallum your uncle is coming to you, saying, "Buy for yourself my field which is at Anathoth, for you have the right of redemption to buy it."'
...

14 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, "Take these deeds, this sealed deed of purchase and this open deed, and put them in an earthenware jar, that they may last a long time."
...
29 "The Chaldeans who are fighting against this city will enter and set this city on fire and burn it, with the houses where people have offered incense to Baal on their roofs and poured out drink offerings to other gods to provoke Me to anger.
2 Kings 25:1-7 1 Now in the ninth year of his reign, on the tenth day of the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, camped against it, and built a siege wall all around it. 2 So the city was under siege until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah. 3 On the ninth day of the fourth month the famine was so severe in the city that there was no food for the people of the land. 4 Then the city was broken into, and all the men of war fled by night by way of the gate between the two walls that were beside the king’s garden, though the Chaldeans were all around the city. And they went by way of the Arabah. 5 But the army of the Chaldeans pursued the king and overtook him in the plains of Jericho, and all his army was scattered from him. 6 Then they captured the king and brought him up to the king of Babylon at Riblah, and he passed sentence on him. 7 And they slaughtered the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes, then put out Zedekiah’s eyes and bound him with bronze shackles, and brought him to Babylon.

Nebuchadnezzar Writes Scripture

After many successful military victories and accumulation of wealth, King Nebuchadnezzar's vanity grew where God gave him a warning in a dream and a message from an Angel that is detailed in Daniel 4:10-17.  The warning for King Nebuchadnezzar, as explained by Daniel in 4:19-26, was:

Daniel gives King Nebuchadnezzar advise to change his sinful and egotistical ways to avoid this judgment, Daniel 4:27.  One year later, King Nebuchadnezzar gloats and boasts of the success was done by his power and glory, which did not honor God.  At that exact moment:

Daniel 4:31-33 31 While the word was in the king’s mouth, a voice came from heaven, saying, ‘King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is declared: sovereignty has been removed from you, 32 and you will be driven away from mankind, and your dwelling place will be with the beasts of the field. You will be given grass to eat like cattle, and seven periods of time will pass over you until you recognize that the Most High is ruler over the realm of mankind and bestows it on whomever He wishes.’ 33 “Immediately the word concerning Nebuchadnezzar was fulfilled; and he was driven away from mankind and began eating grass like cattle, and his body was drenched with the dew of heaven until his hair had grown like eagles’ feathers and his nails like birds’ claws.

After seven years, King Nebuchadnezzar came back to his senses and recognized God the Most High.  At the point King Nebuchadnezzar reclaimed the thrown responsibilities, where Biblical Scholars theorize that it was Daniel who not only took care of the Babylonian Empire during the King Nebuchadnezzar's absence but also personally administrated the care and well-being of King Nebuchadnezzar during the Lycanthropy years.

Chapter 24 of the Book of Daniel has many parts written in Aramaic by King Nebuchadnezzar himself.

Is Nebuchadnezzar Saved and in Heaven?

According to many Biblical Scholars, at the end of King Nebuchadnezzar's life, the scriptures indicated that he most likely recognized the God of Israel to his own Salvation.  The theory is based on primarily the period of time, Daniel 24, where King Nebuchadnezzar recognizes and praises God the Most High, which is discussed in the previous section of this topic.

There is sometimes interesting theories that King Nebuchadnezzar could not have received Salvation, because he is guilty of so many sins that include murder and genocide in the military campaigns that he participated in to enlarge the empire.  His life can be said to be similar to the life of Cain who murdered Abel, but God gave Cain a Mark to believe in and keep Cain safe, which God would only do for someone He loves.  God gave King Nebuchadnezzar another chance in his life during the Lycanthropy period where Daniel was also an instrument to witness of God to him.

All of us are guilty of very heinous sins in our lives that are often even done after accepting Jesus Christ as our Savior, where thank God for the gift that does not require us earn it as it was done 100% by Jesus Christ on the Cross.

The City of Babylon's Fate

The city has been described by Biblical Scholars as the source and beginning of all the types of idolatry that has plagued the world, which are against God.  The city has a destiny of being utterly destroyed and never inhabited again, which has not happened yet.

An excerpt from the City of Babylon topic:

Before Babylon got its current name, it was known as the city of Babel.

  • In Genesis 11:1-9, the city's people were trying to build an astrological tower for the inferred purpose of worshipping false gods along with the possibility of a refuge against another type of Great Flood
  • Babel is the city that Nimrod founded who was the world's first dictator who was against God, and can be described as a type of Antichrist.

Nebuchadnezzar's Gold Statue Parallel to the Antichrist

The Scriptures have many patterns and double occurrences that confirm the identity of the author is God, who exists outside of all time-domains, using using over forty authors in sixty-six books to authenticate the Bible.  An interesting pattern is dealing Nebuchadnezzar's statue that he creates not knowing it was designed to be a trap against Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego by the other jealous advisors to King Nebuchadnezzar as read in Daniel 3:1-6 shown below, with the rescue in the same chapter.
  1. The advisors were against Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego because they worshipped the true God
  2. The other jealous advisors wanted all four of the men killed so that they could have the King's full attention.
  3. The jealous men are emissaries of Lucifer and the Satanic Realm were trying to get everyone to worship false gods.
  4. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were turned in by the jealous advisors that went into the famous fiery furnace incident but were saved by a Theophany or Angel of God.  Biblical Scholars through the inferences and actual historical history state that Daniel was away on an errand of King Nebuchadnezzar which is how the jealous advisors were able to trick the king into the ego of building the statue that Daniel being the highest trusted advisor would have not allowed the statue to be built.

In the Book of Revelation, during the Tribulation Period, the Antichrist sets up a false image of himself, which is the Abomination of Desolation event, to receive worship, just like King Nebuchadnezzar had done.  The same consequence of death would happen to those who do not worship.  Besides the multiple patterns in the Bible, this also shows the usual pattern that Lucifer uses.  The images of the Abomination of Desolation also is set up to be a complete deception of being alive.

Daniel 3:1-6 1 Nebuchadnezzar the king made a statue of gold, the height of which was sixty cubits, and its width six cubits; he set it up on the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon. 2 Nebuchadnezzar the king also sent word to assemble the satraps, the prefects and the governors, the counselors, the chief treasurers, the judges, the magistrates, and all the administrators of the provinces to come to the dedication of the statue that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up. 3 Then the satraps, the prefects and the governors, the counselors, the chief treasurers, the judges, the magistrates, and all the administrators of the provinces were assembled for the dedication of the statue that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the statue that Nebuchadnezzar had set up. 4 Then the herald loudly proclaimed: “To you the command is given, you peoples, nations, and populations of all languages, 5 that at the moment you hear the sound of the horn, flute, lyre, trigon, psaltery, bagpipe, and all kinds of musical instruments, you are to fall down and worship the golden statue that Nebuchadnezzar the king has set up. 6 But whoever does not fall down and worship shall immediately be thrown into the middle of a furnace of blazing fire.
Revelation 13:14-16 14 And he deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by reason of the signs which it was given him to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast who hath the stroke of the sword and lived. 15 And it was given unto him to give breath to it, even to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as should not worship the image of the beast should be killed. 16 And he causeth all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free and the bond, that there be given them a mark on their right hand, or upon their forehead;
