Summary

There are three future battles that God will intervene.  There are other periods in history where God this also, such as the Long Day of Joshua and when walls came down at Jericho as read in Joshua 5:13 through Joshua 6:27.  Before proceeding, read Ezekiel 38, Ezekiel 39, Revelation 9 and Revelation 20 to hear what God has prophesized against Gog and Magog which references two events:

Note that some Biblical Commentaries have the timing of the First Event, the Invasion attempt by Gog and Magog against Israel, with two different placements in the timing of when the Rapture event happens. 

It is important to consider the Rapture event because of the severity and magnitude of the first prophetic Gog and Magog event.   There is two questions and the answer to determine from the scriptures dealing when the Rapture event occurs in relation to the first Gog and Magog invasion event:

1. Does the Invasion attempt happen after the Rapture event?
2. Does the Invasion attempt happen before the Rapture event?

Many Biblical Commentaries, that this author agrees with, have:

1. The Rapture event happening followed by
2. The failed Gog and Magog invasion attempt of Israel, followed by
3. The 70th Week of Daniel,  

This means the First Event, Gog and Magog invasion attempt of Israel, is separate and at its end, will be the start of the 70th Week of Daniel.  These are the primary reasons of many:

• God has always removed those who have faithfully trusted God before judgments occurred, which is explained in the Rapture topic. 
• The first Gog and Magog event will trigger many cataclysmic consequences in many places in the world, which includes the Young Lion countries, which some Biblical Commentaries and this author believe is a judgment against many major countries such as the United States.  See section on Billy Graham's Wife Quip in the Young Lion Countries topic.

Satanic Hierarchy of Ruling with Kings and Princes

Understanding the Powers of the Satanic World is important when understanding Gog and Magog.

Two or more Names

• Our God has many wonderful names.
• Jesus Christ has many titles such besides our Messiah and so many other awesome names and titles.  In Hebrew, Jesus is Yeshua, which encrypted throughout the entire Old and New Testament.  Son of Man is one of the most unique, and privileged titles, that is often misunderstood as it is part of Jesus Christ's first mission leading to the crucifixion that gives Jesus Christ the honor above all names for what He accomplished for our Salvation.
• Jacob has his name changed by God to Israel in Genesis 35:10.  When the man Israel is doing wrong, he is still called Jacob, but when doing right is called Israel.
• The Apostle Paul was known as Saul.
• The Apostle Peter was known also as Cephas.

Regarding the Satanic Realm:

• The Antichrist has many names and is also a fake trinity, trying to emulate God, with:
  (a) Lucifer in the role of God the Father,
  (b) The Antichrist in the role of Jesus Christ, and
  (c) The False Prophet in the role of the Holy Spirit.
• The King of the Bottomless pit in Hebrew is Abaddon, but in Greek it is Apollyon.   Revelation 9:11

In the scriptures, there is the pattern where God uses at least two confirming scriptures to verify a meaning on all topics, which is important regarding the identity of Gog and Magog.

Scriptural Subset of Content on Gog and Magog

The primary scriptural texts dealing with Gog and Magog are in Ezekiel 38, Ezekiel 39 and Revelation 20 where a subset of the chapters is listed next for identification purposes used throughout this document.

As discussed in a previous section of this topic on the Satanic Hierarchy, there are Kings and Princes that are used as an idiom of ranking in authority, power and evil. 

Notice in the scriptural passages which deal directly and primarily against Gog and those who are with Gog which is Magog.  Magog is primarily identified as the land territories, but there is also the reference of Magog territories being under a Satanic Prince.  There are more key scriptural verses than the ones listed, where these 10 points are the highlights of identifying Gog, Magog and God's Fury against Gog.

Here are the points, with number reference, to the scriptural passages listed next:

1. Gog is the prince of Rosh, Mescheh and Tubal as identified in Ezekiel 38:1 and Ezekiel 38:3
2. Magog is identified as land territories associated with a great army as read in Ezekiel 38:4-6.  More on the identity of the territories is discussed further down in this topic.
3. Israel will be living with a belief in their land is secure where it is not.
4. Gog the prince, will unsuccessfully come against the Land of Israel as identified in Ezekiel 38:18 which will cause God great wrath.
5. Israel and the whole Earth's people including animals in the world will know and feel the wrath of God during that time.  Ezekiel 38:19-23
6. Again, God identifies Gog as the prince of Rosh, Mescheh and Tubal as identified in Ezekiel 39:1.
7. A fire will be on Magog and those who dwell securely in the isles.  The isles, according to many Biblical Scholars are the Young Lions who come in defense of Israel, where they are attacked by Gog which part of a Judgment allowed by God.
8. The fate of Gog's army is given in Ezekiel 39:11
9. Verses Ezekiel 39:12-20 speak about the cleansing which has an illusion to radioactive waste that are in bones and other remnants from the destruction of Gog.  This will take seven months.   Note that there has to be something wrong with the bones, and other items, to prohibit the immediate picking up of it that required a sign for someone else to take later.
10. Gog's defeated army will be buried in a "valley" in Israel "on the east of the sea".
11. In Revelation 20:7-9, after the 1,000 Millennial Kingdom of Jesus Christ, Lucifer will be released to lead Gog and Magog in one last war attempt against God as described in Psalm 2, which is the Second Armageddon Event, and it is described as time when God laughs and put the armies in a state of derision.

Who is Gog?

As described in a few Biblical Commentaries, Gog is the highest ranking of the Fallen Angels under Lucifer over:

There are two possibilities concerning any additional information regarding more of Gog's identity:

A few Biblical Commentaries, which this author agrees, believe the following cumulative theory of four parts on the identification of Gog:

1. Gog is a Fallen Angel who is a high ranking Prince in the Satanic realm.
   (Ezekiel 38:2 and 38:3 -- "prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal")
2. A Fallen Angel who is prince over the land of Magog
   (Ezekiel 38:2 -- "Gog, of the land of Magog,")
3. A Fallen Angel King over the Satanic locusts in Lower Sheol's Abyss, while still being a Prince in the land of Magog.
4. A Fallen Angel who has several names in the scriptures that appears to be the same fallen angel with the names of Gog, Abaddon and Apollyon.  The name Abaddon, in Hebrew, and Apollyon, in Greek, both mean "the Destroyer".

The items #3 and #4 are based on three scriptural passages of Amos 7:1, Revelation 9:1-11 and Proverbs 15:11, where the link is the identification of the Satanic Locusts that sting after being released from Lower Sheol and their king is Gog. 

With only a few exceptions in the scriptures, there is always confirming additional scriptures that will interpret and confirm other scriptures, where the "locusts" and "Sheol" are the two key links between the three scriptural passages of Amos 7:1, Revelation 9:1-11 and Proverbs 15:11:

1. Gog is the King of the grasshoppers, also closely related to locusts (more on that shortly).
2. Gog is the King over the locusts of the bottomless pit's distinct area of lower Sheol's prison compartment.  Gog, Abaddon and Apollyon appear to be the same Fallen Angel according to a few Biblical Commentary theories and also author's opinion.
3. The three scriptural references are giving us interpretation based on scripture.

The Locust references in the scriptures are usually an idiom for loss from incorrect living or negative judgment, as read in Joel 2:25.  When reading Joel 2:25, it is clear that the insect locusts did not eat years from Israel, but took away from the blessing of God from the life of a person and a nation.

Note that there are some Biblical Commentaries that incorrectly state a conflict with Amos 7.1's reference to Gog when compared to Proverbs 30:27 that states locust have no king.  Careful reading of the surrounding text of Proverbs 20:27 state the context of verse 27 is about four things that are little on the earth that are exceedingly wise, then speaks about large animals.  Therefore, Proverbs 30:27 does not change Amos 7:1.

An additional ambiguous note reference, that has nothing to do with Gog the Satanic Prince and King is in 1st Chronicles 5:3-4, which is merely a reference to the name of the son of Shemaiah.  We do not know if the land that Gog the son of Shemaiah inhabited was any of the lands of the Ezekiel 38 and 39 prophecies. 

Who and What are the Locusts of Sheol and Link to Gog?

There is an interesting comparison and identification of Locusts in Revelation Chapter 9, which is a possible key reference to identifying more about Gog. 

Most Biblical Commentaries are correct in regarding Revelation 9:3 identify of the "locusts" as not a common locust of any kind that is on the Earth in the past or now.  The locusts of Revelation 9:3-4 are part of the judgments during the Tribulation Period.

God does use patterns in the scriptures and there is an overwhelming use of common idioms that prove the consistent use of the idioms authenticates the sixty-six books, written by over forty authors and thousands of years, has its source outside of our time-domain.  There is statistically and absolutely no way the authors conspired with one another to always use the same idioms. 

Incorrect Association about the Locusts with the Events of the Israel Exodus performed by Moses

Unfortunately, there are some Biblical Commentaries that mention the plaques of the Egyptian captivity are exactly parallel to the Seven Bowl Judgments of the Tribulation Period.  There are parallels, but the locusts coming out of the Bottomless Pit of Sheol are not the same from Moses obtaining Israel's release from Egyptian captivitiy. 

The difference is the Exodus event is an insect that eats green leaves from plants, and the other is to only to sting humans that are not marked with Salvation.  The locust in Revelation 9:4 have power like a scorpion to cause pain for five months, and are not allowed to hurt any green growing plant or tree.

• In the Egyptian Captivity, the locusts were a plague of insects that destroyed crops of Israel as read in Exodus 10.  Also note that the scripture states that there never will be a plague of locusts like those in Exodus which destroyed everything green in an entire country in one day making the ground black.

  Exodus 10:14-15

  14 they invaded all Egypt and settled down in every area of the country in great numbers. Never before had there been such a plague of locusts, nor will there ever be again. 15 They covered all the ground until it was black. They devoured all that was left after the hail—everything growing in the fields and the fruit on the trees. Nothing green remained on tree or plant in all the land of Egypt.

• In the Tribulation Period judgments of First Woe of Three which has the locusts, these are not insects and their purpose is to sting humans who have either the Mark of the Beast or have not accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior unto Salvation.   These evil appearing locust-like creatures are on a mission to hurt.

  Revelation 9:3-4

  3 And out of the smoke came forth locusts upon the earth; and power was given them, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 4 And it was said unto them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree, but only such men as have not the seal of God on their foreheads.

Some key parts identified by the Locusts of Revelation 9:

• The fifth Angel sounded his trumpet.
• A key is given to a Fallen Angel that is identified as "a star from heaven fallen".  Notice the 'fallen" to identify the receiver of the key is a Fallen Angel, who receives the key from the Fifth Angel.
• The key is to the abyss, which is lower Sheol that conveys there is an exit when having a key from God.
• Great smoke and locusts came from the Abyss.
• The locusts will sting like a scorpion while not hurting any green growing plant or tree.
• The locusts will sting anyone not marked by God for Salvation.
• The pain from the sting will last five months which will cause victims to seek death but cannot commit suicide or get someone to kill them.
• The locusts have a shape with attributes:
  (a) Like a horse with battle arraignment,
  (b) Heads with teeth like a lion and hair like a woman,
  (c) Have breastplates that were like iron,
  (d) Their wings, when flapping, sound like horses rushing to war.
  (e) Tails like a scorpion.
  (f)  Hair of a woman, which in context of the time of the writing, means long hair like a woman.

In Pain for Five Months and Seeking Death

There are two interesting and horrible consequence of being stung by the Satanic locusts of Revelation 9:

1. "hurt men five months" / "tormented five months" from the sting
2. "men shall seek death, and shall in no wise find it" from the sting

Some Biblical Commentaries have written and wondered how a person would seek death and not be able to commit suicide.  The most-likely two possibilities is the sting will inflict so much pain:

1. The person becomes paralyzed from the sting or partially immobilized to not allow the ability to use their
   (a) hands,
   (b) feet and
   (c) Vision impairment.
2. The person's cognitive ability to think clearly is impaired so much that keeping a goal oriented thought process of seeking death is not capable of being done.

As a minor comparison there are some diseases, such as Multiple Sclerosis, which can leave a person in the last stages of the illness to not be able to move easily.

A Link to Gog with the Locusts of Revelation 9

In the previous section of this topic, the theoretical identity of the Satanic Locusts King, besides Abaddon and Apollyon, is possibly Gog. 

The location of the locusts coming out of the Abyss, which is also known as Lower Sheol, gives the possibility link that this author has not read in any Biblical Commentary or heard anywhere with the following questions and explanations.  This author's theory is discussed with the two following questions and the possible theoretical answers based on scriptures.

When Sheol (upper and lower) was created, it had two scriptural known purposes:

1. A temporary prison (lower Sheol), until the Great White Thrown of Judgment, for Fallen Angels, Demons and Humans without Salvation.
2. A temporary abode (upper Sheol, also known as the bosom of Abraham in Luke 16:22) for those who will inherit Salvation to stay and wait for Jesus Christ's payment on the Cross so that they could go to Heaven, as explained in the Dispensations topic. 

Two questions to consider:

• Does the scriptures state that God created the satanic locusts to be imprisoned in the abyss under Gog? 
  (a) No, the scripture infers the locusts were already there. 
  (b) A "key", Revelation 9:1, was given to the Fallen Angel to release the locusts from the abyss. 
  (c) This Fallen Angel is not in the Abyss, Sheol prison, so the Fallen Angel goes down to release the prisoner locusts.   If Gog is the Fallen Angel to release them, then Gog can be their King as Amos 7.1 indicates.
• If God did not create evil satanic locusts, is there a possibility the locusts are:
  (a) Demonically or Fallen Angels possessed locusts, or
  (b) Fallen Angels that are condemned and given new physical forms as part of the punishment while in Lower Sheol that are temporarily released?

Some scriptural points to consider that may give us the possibility of the identity of the Locusts:

1. Before and after the Great Flood of Noah, the Fallen Angels who participated in the creation of the Nephilim were imprisoned in chains to Lower Sheol.  The Fallen Angels imprisoned in Lower Sheol were told of Jesus Christ's victory on the Cross in 1 Peter 3:18-20

   1 Peter 3:18-20

   18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, 19 in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, 20 because they formerly did not obey, when God's patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water.

2. The Fallen Angels that Jesus Christ proclaimed His victory to in Prison, are there because of their actions to create Nephilim in the times of Noah.

   2 Peter 2:4-5

   4 For if God spared not angels when they sinned, but cast them down to Tartarus, and committed them to chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; 5 and spared not the ancient world, but preserved Noah with seven others, a preacher of righteousness, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly;

3. Demons can be cast to Lower Sheol, as known from the incident where the group of Demons ask Jesus Christ if they could be sent into a herd of pigs in Matthew 8:29-31 instead of being sent to Sheol.

   Matthew 8:29-31

   29 And behold, they cried out, “What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?” 30 Now a herd of many pigs was feeding at some distance from them. 31 And the demons begged him, saying, “If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of pigs.”

4. When Lucifer is cast down into Sheol in chains for the duration of the 1000 Millennial Kingdom of Jesus Christ, then those who are imprisoned there recognize Lucifer and ask if Lucifer has become weak as they are.

   Isaiah 14:9-12

   9 Sheol from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. 10 All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us? 11 Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee. 12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

5. When Jesus Christ calmed the storm on the sea of Galilee, really a large lake, what was behind the storm that frightened seasoned and well-experienced sailors (specific Disciples) that knew the Sea to be so frightened?

   Matthew 8:23-26

   23 And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. 24 And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. 25 And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. 26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.

Taking into consideration the Fallen Angels that participated in the creation of the Nephilim were condemned to Tartarus, which is also known as Sheol and the Abyss by Biblical Commentaries, is there the possibility the locusts of Revelation 9 are those Fallen Angels in the form of a hybrid locust:

1. With the lion teeth,
2. Women's type of hair, and
3. Sting of a scorpion to cause five months of pain?

Who is Magog?

As read from the earlier parts of this topic, and other topics such as Fallen Angels and Demons, the Satanic World is set up with a hierarchy of command under Lucifer (Ephesians 6:12).  Magog in the scriptural references is described as land and country areas with a ruling Fallen Angel. 

These land and country areas are given with the names at the time of the scriptural writings, that can be given the modern-day names.  The modern-day country names do have Satanic Ruling Fallen Angels assigned to them, according to the scriptures, just like there was/is a Fallen Angel in charge of Persia, which is modern-day Iran, as read in Daniel 10:13.

Michael, in scriptural passages, is one of God's Archangels that is always assigned in roles of combat with Satanic Forces in the scriptures.

The first Magog Event is described in Ezekiel 38 and Ezekiel 39

The countries identified are known from their ancient names, which are all descendants from Noah as read in Genesis 10:1-8.  Perhaps one of the most famous of the descendants of Noah is the first world ruler, Nimrod who started an astrological based religion against God at the tower of Babel that becomes Babylon, which is important in additionally identifying with Cush.

Identification of the ten areas is listed in the following table with the generally established geographical areas identified in the verses Ezekiel 1-6:

Notes on the Ezekiel 38's territorial armies:

1. The Ezekiel 38:1-6 indicates that God will intervene, as God can in various scriptural passage confirmations, to have this groups of identified armies to be pulled into launching the failed invasion attempt as if done by a hook, like a fish is pulled out of the water after taking bait on hook that has deceived the fish.
2. Most Biblical Scholars note that Jordan does not join in with the Gog and Magog event and eludes control and influence from the Antichrist in the Tribulation Period.  In the Tribulation Period, a remnant of Israel will flee in fear of their lives to mountains areas of Petra, Daniel 11:41- modern-day part of Jordan, to remain protected for the entire 3.5 years of the Tribulation Period.
3. Elam. is identified as a province of Persia.  In the times of Xerxes in the book of Ezra, there is the reference of Elamites of Susa, which is considered prehistory of Persian and then Iran.  In the book of Daniel is also the reference of Elam.

   Ezra 4:8-10

   8 Rehum the commanding officer and Shimshai the secretary wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king as follows: 9 Rehum the commanding officer and Shimshai the secretary, together with the rest of their associates—the judges, officials and administrators over the people from Persia, Uruk and Babylon, the Elamites of Susa, 10 and the other people whom the great and honorable Ashurbanipal deported and settled in the city of Samaria and elsewhere in Trans-Euphrates.

   Daniel 8:2

   In my vision I saw myself in the citadel of Susa in the province of Elam; in the vision I was beside the Ulai Canal.

4. Cush, is identified as the land of modern-day Ethiopia.  Some Biblical Commentaries use Genesis 2:13-14 to identify the land of Cush by the two river references, which cannot be so easily done as this before the Great Flood of Noah so while the names of these rivers exist after the Great Flood, they may not be the same.  Regardless, most Biblical Commentaries identify Cush to the areas of Ethiopia as Cush was one of the sons of Ham that makes a northern area of east Africa home, as identified in Genesis 10:6 to be known as the Hamites.

   Genesis 2:13-14

   13 The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush. 14 The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Ashur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

5. Put or Phut is identifiable through Genesis 10:6.  It is often identified as modern-day Libya.

   Genesis 10:6

   The sons of Ham: Cush, Egypt, Put and Canaan.

6. There are a few Biblical Commentaries that identify Germany and other countries near Germany as Gomer.
7. Gomer is identifiable through Genesis 10:2-3 which associates Gomer having sons Ashkenaz, Riphath and Togarmah. 
   a) Different Biblical Commentaries identify the decedents of Gomer inhabiting parts of modern-day Russia, Ukraine, Serbia, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Belarus, Croatia, Slovakia, Bosnia, Slovenia, Macedonia and Montenegro.
   b) As noted above, Germany is often included in some Biblical Commentaries with historical information that the decedents of Gomer went up into the areas of land through the exploration of the Rhine river and Danube river.

   Genesis 10:2

   2 The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshek and Tiras.

8. Togarmah is identified as a son of Gomer which many Biblical Commentaries note settles in modern-day Turkey

   Genesis 10:3

   The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath and Togarmah.

9. The armies of the North, the uttermost in the Hebrew, is the term often used for the "from the far north" of the Holy City of Jerusalem, is modern-day Russia, which may be an additional reference to country areas shown below in the map as highlighted with light-green, and mentioned as descendants of Gomer.
10. The "many nations with you", in most Biblical Commentaries identify other nations in the Middle East and North Africa that are primarily associated with decedents of Put, that are currently predominately Muslim countries.  Some Biblical Commentaries identify Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and possibly Egypt as the primary additional "many nations with you" reference.

Gog and Magog Lead an Invasion Attempt of Israel

As discussed earlier in this topic, some Biblical Scholars believe as this author does, that the invasion attempt against Israel will proceed before the 70th Week of Daniel starts.

The language in the Ezekiel 38 and 39 chapters is using language from that period of history regarding the vernacular from that day especially dealing with wars.  The language reflects the same outcome as it would be today if the words used were translated to modern terms for tanks, guidance missiles, jets. 

God is informing Gog and Magog, where Magog is meant to include all the nations, that God will defend Israel so that Gog and Magog's invasion will fail with utter destruction of all of those who came to invade Israel.

The invasion is going to start the awaking of parts of Israel to their God and Messiah Jesus Christ.  Ultimately, the Tribulation Period is coming which has the chief purpose of Israel recognizing Jesus Christ as their Savior.  Steven, or Stephen, the Disciple is killed by the Sanhedrin when describing how Israel eventually makes the correct choice for what God has provided which is their and our Messiah Jesus Christ.

In The Hebrew words, used in the passages, describe a leaping horse or flying bird along with a chariot-rider, all of which conveys a mechanized military force.  Zechariah chapters 12 and 14 speak about Gog and Magog future battle where God fights the battle and has Israel recognize God afterwards.

Some key points:

• A siege attempted
• Cause the armies against Israel go into madness and blindness
• Israel will recognize Jesus Christ whom they have pierced (killed)
• God will avenge Israel from the previous siege of 70AD
